A DAY IN THE LIFE:

Junior Nursery (N1) Students at Young Seed Preschool

Math, Science and Creativity

Math and Science concepts are introduced through materials that children can touch, move, hold connect or stack. Junior Nursery students choose from a variety of educational toys: 3- to 6-piece puzzles to solve, playdough to poke, pound, and roll, counting sets to practice on, sorting boxes to classify things of various shapes and sizes, and blocks to build and play.

Language and Reading

Children have access to the reading area where they look through books on their own or with their classmates and teachers. But the real magic happens when a teacher reads out loud to them, and they recall details from pictures and predict what happens next. This contributes greatly to their reading comprehension, vocabulary growth, and a beginning appreciation for books.

Self-Expression and Creativity

Junior Nursery students develop their sense of self and awareness of space through dress-up and pretend play activities, and self-expression and creativity through role-taking activities like cooking, fixing things, and caring for the baby.

To kick things up a notch, they explore and experiment with various collage and paper materials of different sorts, as well as tools to paint, stamp, stick, tear, and scribble with. All of these fun activities develop finger strength for writing letters and words in the next level of schooling.

Circle Time/ Meeting Time

During circle time, children gather together to pray, engage in morning greetings, and fill in a weekly calendar chart. From there, they participate in music and movement activities or dramatic play (picture this: a caterpillar crawling and weaving a cocoon around himself!)

But most importantly, children learn how to share their ideas, be aware of their personal space, listen to ideas other than their own, and follow simple rules.
