Our Story
Over the last two decades, preschool education has prioritized cognitive growth over other areas of a child’s development. Textbooks were the norm. Skills in Reading, Writing, and Math were given more importance. And there was an overemphasis on paper-and-pencil tasks, steering children away from stories, pretend and active play, games, arts and crafts, and collaboration with classmates.
It was in this climate in 2016 that Young Seed founder, Eileen Caparas, envisioned a school that would go back to the basics of high-quality education and genuine care for the very young.
“Guided by God and with the help of families, give children space to play and learn, in a positive and caring environment, filled with tools and materials, facilitated by qualified and caring teachers. When we do this, children will fulfill their potentials like seeds in full bloom”.
This is the essence of preschool education. This is Young Seed Preschool.
Our Vision
Our seeds in full bloom, Young Seed children fulfilling their potential.
Our Mission
Like a seed, a child grows in good soil. Young Seed Preschool is good soil. It nurtures children by giving them caring teachers, showering them with tools and materials, and planting God’s love in their hearts to fill the needs of the world we live in.
Our classrooms are stocked with everything a child needs to explore and learn — from books and blocks, to puzzles and toys.
Our Teaching Philosophy
The Child and the Teacher
A child learns by doing and learns at his own pace, so our role as teachers is to provide an interesting and relevant curriculum appropriate for the age and interests of our students.
A happy and successful child is interested in his school work, so we prepare our students’ school life to consist of the spiritual, intellectual, socio-emotional, aesthetic, and physical. From a child’s interested work and play sprout more learning, joy, and connection with others.
The School
Young Seed has a progressive education program that uses Social Studies and Values Education as its core—with Reading and Language, Math, and Science integrated into it.
The school puts strong emphasis on learning by doing, problem solving, and critical thinking in the context of lifelong learning, competence in communication, and social skills. We look beyond textbooks as the sole basis of our curriculum and, instead, draw on rich, real-world resources, i.e. resource persons, field trips, books, and the Internet.
Essentially, we believe in the interdependence of people and God—how a person’s words and actions affect himself and his relationships with God, his family, his community, and his country. It is this same interdependence that breaks walls of self-interest and indifference, ultimately motivating people to come together and work for the common good.
Inside the classroom, we teach the children that we are dependent on one another. We are happy and we succeed in what we do when we share our talents and do things together. We teach the values of democracy, respect for differences, charity, generosity and honesty.
